Parts of a Tower Crane
Several of the most amazing structures around the globe are made using cranes. The newer cranes are utilized in order to reach higher heights. Tower cranes provide the means to transport and lift building parts, materials and tools around a construction location. There are various parts that assemble a tower crane once they are put together. Putting a tower crane together utilizes various pieces of construction machines.
Base
Normally, the base of a tower crane is made from a steel unit. The base is attached to a concrete pad that is custom-designed. This set-up provides the structure with stability. Overall, the construction must be engineered and constructed well so as to operate at optimum safety.
Mast
The tower cranes mast provides height to the machine. The mast is made of attached steel parts. The amount of parts determines the crane's height. Usually, a tower crane has a design that enables the mast to grow during construction by adding more sections as the building process goes on. This way the height of the crane can be specified, making certain that it has adequate height to safely and efficiently perform the needed work.
Slewing Unit/Top Climber
A slewing unit is situated over the mast. This unit houses the machines and the motor that allows the crane to rotate. A top climber is the piece of equipment which allows the mast to grow. The top climber is situated just beneath the slewing unit. Hydraulic rams inside the top climber enable the slewing unit to be detached from the mast by raising it higher.
Boom
The term "boom", refers to the tower crane's working arm. The boom is made up of separate steel parts that are connected together, extending out from the top of the slewing unit and parallel to the ground. There is a trolley attached to the underside which can run the length of the boom. This particular trolley holds the hoisting mechanism.
