The forklift is a material handling machinery used to lift and move loads from one location to another. Each and every forklift component has a specific function. Different parts can be used to transport the load either horizontally or vertically.
Mast
The components used to lift and lower the load is called the forklift mast. There are different types of masts used for raising loads to various heights: duplex, triplex, quad and simplex.
Power Supply
There are four different ways you can power a forklift: electric, gas, propane and diesel. The battery is located inside the cab under the seat. The propane tank is located on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is under the rear of the truck.
Cab
Situated within the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The gas pedal, steering wheel, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all situated in the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the biggest forklift parts is the frame of the truck. This includes the counterweights situated at the rear which prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the axles, wheels and driveshaft.
