Propane Tank Policies
The liquid petroleum or LP system style gas container is an OSHA term that refers to the regulators, piping, hoses, regulators, valves and fittings. The agency needs specific parts depending upon the capacity of the tank. These individual parts must go trough recognized laboratory testing. The right laboratory approval proves that the system parts meet construction, pressure and thickness standards.
Tank Location
The organization OSHA determines how near the propane tank can be mounted in relation to ignitable materials, to buildings, to tanks that contain flammable liquids, cutting torches and welders. These strict rules are in place to make the jobsite really safe for the workers and other individuals who are in the vicinity.
Nameplate Marks
Liquefied Propane systems have to be marked with the address and the name of the container supplier, or tank trade name. The container capacity is listed in pounds or gallons, square foot outside surface, pressure and fill level. Furthermore, details regarding whether or not the container is made to be installed above ground or underground is also visible. These markings should be on a metal plate connected to the container somewhere in plain sight. OSHA requires that each tank should be marked by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors in order to be considered ready and safe to utilize.
Tank Modifications and Repairs
Any type of maintenance to LP systems which need welding are regulated by OSHA. Repair personnel and tank owners have to know the standards and regulatory codes which the tanks were made. Welding repairs to any system part that is subject to internal pressure should first comply with these fabrication codes. Any other type of welding is only permitted on saddle plates, lugs or brackets.
The OSHA works hard to make sure that those who work with lift trucks and nearby are kept safe. They have stringent regulations and training procedures in place so as to make sure that these industrial equipment and their repair processes are handled with respect and as safe as possible. It is important that companies follow their rules and steep fines could occur if they are not adhered to.
