Forklift Classifications
The following classes of forklift describe the use and fuel option of every forklift. Certification is necessary for every class of forklift which the operator will be using.
Class 1 - Electric Motor Rider Trucks
These forklifts are available with either pneumatic tires or cushion tires. Pneumatic tires are suggested during dry conditions for outdoor use. The cushion tired models are designed for indoor, smooth surfaces. These are electrically powered vehicles that make use of industrial batteries, which make them suitable within closed locations where the quality of air is a concern. Travel and hoist functions are controlled by transistor motor controllers. These are versatile units normally utilized everywhere from storage facility to the loading dock.
Class 2 - Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks
This particular forklift is suggested for places where narrow aisles need to be negotiated. They are efficient at maximizing the use of storage space. Their unique design makes them perfect for small spaces and where speed is required.
Class 3 - Electric Motor Hand or Hand-Rider Trucks
These are battery-powered and hand-controlled models. Utilizing a steering tiller, the operator could control the lift while standing in front of the truck. The tiller has controls mounted on top and is moved sideways to steer the vehicle. The smaller capacity units use industrial batteries.
